XP Logon window not coming

There might be some cases when the Windows XP login screen doesn't come and the system boot's but doesn't enter the desktop. The possible reason is a corrupt kernel32.dll. How to fix this error.

1) Boot with the XP CD-ROM.
2) Select Repair windows option (and not the install windows option, this will reinstall the windows and delete the C:/ data).
3) A DOS window will come, type these commands carefully...

cd c:/windows/system32 (hit enter)

ren kernel32.dll kernel32.old

cd d:/i386 (hit enter - here d: is CD-ROM Drive)

expand kernel32.dl_ c:/windows/system32 (hit enter - use the underscore with 'dl_')
now the message comes '1 file expanded'
that it, now you can boot the windows without CD, and the logon screen will come.
